Mathematics Ideas

Parents sometimes ask if they can help their children with Maths. The following booklets are designed to support this. They are, for ease of reference, divided into Year Groups but you may find your child's mathematical development does not match this exactly. This does not matter everyone develops at a different rate and you should access materials from the earlier or later year groups. They are often arranged by National Curriculum Levels. If you are unsure of which is the most appropriate for your child please ask their teacher.

Times Tables

All children need to know their Times Tables by the end of Y4 and we start teaching them from Reception and Year 1 beginning by learning to count in twos, fives and tens. The following leaflet gives support and ideas for helping your child to learn their tables.

Times Tables Leaflet

We practise tables in school very frequently, children learn to use them in the following way:

5x4 = 20

4x5 = 20

20 divided by 4 = 5

20 divided by 5 = 4

Did you know once children are able to instantly recall all their tables up to 12x12 they can do a special assessment to become a Willow Tree Tables Champion and claim a prize?
